Hon Ki began her pipa studies at the age of 9 and received the performance diploma with merit from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 2008. She has performed pipa and ruan with ensembles including the Hong Kong City Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Junior Chinese Orchestra, New Asia Chinese Music Society, as well as Chinese Music Ensembles in Kansas City and Florida State University. She was named the assistant director of the FSU Chinese Music Ensemble for the year 2017-2018. She performed as a soloist and ensemble members in these groups. She has also performed at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO, and Lycoming College, PA.
Outside of the traditional Chinese repertoire, she is also interested in expanding her musical horizon by collaborating with musicians of other styles. She performed with jazz musicians for the New Music Ensemble at the University of Kansas, and participated at the Silk Road Global Musician Workshop.
